Climbing Everest

Harrovians have heard first-hand from one of their matrons of her ascent of Mount Everest.

Inspired by her grandfather, Serena Brocklebank, Matron of The Knoll, stood on the summit of the world's highest mountain on 18 May 2006. She delivered a fascinating and deeply personal account of her climb, reflecting on the challenge, resilience and legacy behind one of mountaineering's greatest achievements.

Ms Brocklebank's grandfather, Tom, took part in the 1933 British Everest expedition, attempting to scale the world's highest peak two decades before the first confirmed ascent of Everest in 1953.
